Khanh Ly, one of the world's most famous Vietnamese singers, will perform for the first time in Vietnam since she left the country almost 40 years ago.
The 69-year-old singer will perform for one night only at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi on May 9, Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper reported.
She will sing the songs she is most loved for, especially the songs composed by late musician Trinh Cong Son, once dubbed Vietnam’s Bob Dylan.
Four male singers – Tuan Ngoc, Thai Chau, Quang Thanh and Ha Anh Tuan – will accompany her on stage.
“I will be very happy to meet Trinh Cong Son again with the precious moments on the stage in my home country,” Ly told the organizers of her live concert – the Dong Dao Entertainment Co., Ltd and Viet Vision.
Tickets for the concert ranged from VND900 (US$42) to VND3.5 million ($166).
Nguyen Dang Chuong, head of the Department of Performing Arts, told Tuoi Tre the concert had been granted a license around one month ago.
Ly left the country for the U.S. in 1975 when the Vietnam War ended.
She returned to Vietnam several times but did not perform.
Her name is usually associated with famous songs composed by Trinh Cong Son.
