An electronics store in Hanoi was fined VND40 million for using women in swimwear to promote its business, local authorities said Friday.
Tran Anh Electronics Supermarket's advertising campaign was "against Vietnam's traditional culture and fine customs," according to a decision by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Information.
The business made headlines late last month after photos and video clips showing a group of young women in bikinis welcoming customers to the shop and helping them park their bikes went viral on social media.
The managers of Tran Anh claimed that they were only filming "sex education videos."
“Young Vietnamese people have not been provided with appropriate sex education... so we want to make a series of sex education videos,” Ngo Thanh Dat, marketing manager, told Thanh Nien.
The manager did not elaborate on the content of the series and in what way the women in bikinis can teach young people about safe sex practices.
