Nearly 100 Vietnamese people attended the Khat Vong Tre (Young Aspiration) music and fashion show in Kharkov, Ukraine on Sunday.

"We were all eager when we heard that a group of Vietnamese artists were coming to perform in Kharkov," said Do Thi Hue, a Vietnamese restaurant manager who has lived in Kharkov for 15 years. She lives in Thoi Dai commune along with about 1,000 other Vietnamese.

"Some of my friends had plans to fly to Vietnam but they postponed their trips to stay for the show," she said.

"Ever since the artist group arrived, our kids here have taken any chance they have to meet and talk to them because it is not easy to meet such a large number of Vietnamese artists here in Ukraine," she said.

Organized by Thanh Nien newspaper, the Association of Vietnamese in Ukraine, and the Association of Vietnamese in Kharkov, Khat Vong Tre took place at the Kharkiv Theater.

The music and fashion show Khat Vong Tre is held annually to raise money for the Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship Fund and to build boarding houses for children.

Do Thi Mai, who has lived in Kharkov for 27 years, said music was her favorite part of the show.

"Chamber and country music are the two kinds of music that I like and the show [Khat Vong Tre] has both of them," she said.

Vietnamese designer Lien Houng, who's latest designs were part of the fashion show, was surprised by the warm welcome the group of Khat Vong Tre performers received.

"One meaningful thing that we have seen since coming here is the sincere love that Ukrainian people give for the show, especially for ao dai," he said.

Okcehoba Onbra, Miss Kharvov City, said the Vietnamese ao dai is unique and beautiful. It made her feel prettier when she wore it, she said.

"The Ukrainian models [who performed in the show] really surprised us a lot as they look very professional their first time wearing ao dai," Huong said after a day working with 12 Ukrainian models along with Vietnamese designer Thuan Viet.
