An Indonesian contemporary art exhibition entitled "Picturing Pictures - From symbols to works" opened June 18 at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum and will last until June 29.

Co-organized by Indonesian-based Art XChange Gallery and the HCMC museum, the exhibition contains 26 oil paintings by 21 contemporary Indonesian artists.

Jim Supangkat, curator at the exhibition, said that the Art XChange Gallery learned that oil paintings were popular in Vietnam and decided to display oil paintings only at the exhibition, as well as focus on contemporary works, which were created with a combination of traditional and modern techniques.

The Indonesian artists held exchanges with their local counterparts at the Ham Long Fine Arts Village in HCMC's District 2 on June 19, and took part in a workshop on contemporary fine arts at the Van Thanh Recreation Park in Binh Thanh District the following day.
