Conference decries development around Hue temples

Urbanization is damaging the ecosystem around the imperial city of Hue's temples, local and Japanese experts announced at a conference on Monday.

Members of the symposium sounded alarms about economic expansion and residential development in the neighborhoods surrounding the temples.

Organizers of the gathering also unveiled environmental research authored by representatives from UNESCO World Heritage Institute of Japan's Waseda University.

Phan Thanh Hai, deputy director of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, presented two reports on temples built during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) which was mainly based in Hue.
