A ceramic national flag inaugurated on the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago on June 6 has been recognized as a national record by the Vietnam Record Book Center.

The largest ceramic mosaic flag, created with 310,000 pottery pieces, measures 12.4 meters by 25 meters and weighs 3.5 tons.

The project to build the flag was initiated by painter Nguyen Thu Thuy, deputy director of the New Hanoi Art Company and was carried out in February at Hanoi's well-known pottery village of Bat Trang.

Placed on the roof of the town hall on island, the cermaic is expected to withstand tough sea weather.

The flag can be easily seen at the center of the Truong Sa Island using Google Earth or other satellite cameras.
