Britain's TNT Theater has transformed William Shakespeare's tragedy "King Lear" into a musical and will stage it in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi next month.

The play has been put together by TNT, the American Drama Group Europe, and the Vietnam Performing Arts Center at the Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The event will be a blend of live music, imagery and action, featuring actors that also play the cello, violin, percussion and sing five-part harmonies.

The tragedy's title character descends into madness after foolishly disposing of his estate between two of his three daughters based on their flattery, bringing tragic consequences for all, according to a press release.

The performances will be in English and take place at the HCMC Opera House (7 Lam Son Square, District 1) at 11 a.m. on October 25 and 26 and at 8 p.m. on October 26, 27 and 28 at the Hanoi Opera House (1 Trang Tien Street) at 8 p.m. on October 30 and 31.

Tickets cost VND600,000 and VND300,000 for students.
