The Hanoi International Theater Society will open its 2010 season with "Beauty and the Beast" on January 22, according to the play's director Amy Cherry.
"Beauty and the Beast,"based on the 1991 animated feature film by Walt Disney Productions, features over 30 performers from over 15 countries who have been living, working and studying in Hanoi.
The show centers around the love story between a beautiful young woman named Belle and a beast who is really a prince transformed by a spell.
"Hanoi International Theater Society (HITS) is about celebrating the talent and diversity of the international community here in Hanoi and giving back to the Hanoi community who have welcomed us so warmly," said Cherry.
As one of few English language theaters in Hanoi, HITS was founded in 2001 with membership consisting mainly of expatriates living and working in Hanoi in the voluntary sector.
The non-profit group's shows generally draw around one thousand viewers, a vibrant mix of English-speaking business people, embassy workers, teachers, students, volunteers and local residents.
Tickets for the show, which runs until January 24, are available at Hong Ha theater, located at 51 Duong Thanh St., Hoan Kiem District.
