Nguyen Hoang Hiep's winning photo Bão (Storm) has put him in the running for the Sony World Photography Awards Open Photographer of the Year title
Young Vietnamese photographer Nguyen Hoang Hiep, winner of a sub-category at the Sony World Photography Awards 2013, will compete for the contest's Photographer of the Year title.
Hiep, 21, from Hanoi, won the first prize for his photo Bão (Storm) in the Open category for amateur and enthusiasts, which saw more than 54,000 entries from 160 countries this year.
Hiep is among ten award-winning photographers in the contest who will receive a Sony A77.
The ten photographers will now compete for the Sony World Photography Awards Open Photographer of the Year title, the winner of which will be revealed at a gala ceremony on April 25 in London, UK. The finalist will also receive a US$5,000 award.
The ten winners will have their images exhibited at Somerset House, London, from April 26 May 12 as part of the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition.
The photographs will also be published in the 2013 edition of the Sony World Photography Awards book.
The Sony World Photography Awards has been yearly held by the World Photography Organization since 2008.
