Having taken US$1.3 billion worldwide at record speed, Oscar-winning director James Cameron's 3-D opus has also become the highest-grossing film ever in Vietnam.

Since its premier on December 18, the film has raked in $1 million at Megastar Cineplex's two 3D cinemas in Hanoi and HCMC. The rush for Avatar is still hot as the 3D tickets are consistently sold out and theaters have even added an extra show time at 7:30 a.m.

This success of Avatar in Vietnam has been noticed by Hollywood.

DreamWorks Animation Studios has invited representatives from Megastar and the Vietnamese press to attend the "DreamWorks Animation Glendale" event in Los Angeles from January 14 to 16.

The guests will explore the process of 3D-filmmaking and meet big-wigs in the field like Jeffrey Katzenberg and Phil "Captain 3D" McNally. Some of the first 3D scenes from Shrek Forever After will be unveiled at the event.
