The critically acclaimed Broadway musical "The Last 5 Years" by Jason Robert Brown will be staged on June 15-16 at the 5B Theater in Ho Chi Minh City.
The show is directed by and stars Brian Riedlinger, arguably the most recognizable international performing artist in Ho Chi Minh City. It is co-produced by Dragonfly Theater Co., and the city's International Choir and Orchestra.
According to a press release from Dragonfly Theater, the two-person musical uses a unique narrative structure to tell the love story of Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress, from the time they meet through their eventual divorce.
"While the story is told chronologically from Jamie's perspective, Cathy tells her story starting from the breakup and goes backwards. This narrative device creates pathos as joy is juxtaposed with pain, significantly increasing the emotional power of the work," says the release.
The musical also features Vanessa Tantillo, who has been performing around her hometown of Chicago, Illinois since the age of six.
"The Last 5 Years" represents Dragonfly Theater Co.'s continuing efforts to bring professional-quality English-language theatrical productions to HCMC, and to build bridges between the Vietnamese and international theater communities.
Three performances of the musical will take place on June 15 at 8 p.m., and on June 16 at 2:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. at the 5B Theater located at 5B Vo Van Tan Street in District 3.
All performances will be presented in English with Vietnamese supertitles.
Tickets can be ordered online at firstname.lastname@example.org. Front/center tickets are VND500,000 while rear/side seats are priced at VND350,000. Dragonfly is offering a special student price of VND100,000 (Vietnamese student I.D. required).
