American gallery hosts Vietnamese exhibition of life's scars

A solo exhibition by Vietnamese artist Nguyen Thanh Mai used installation works to explore the cycle of life and death at the Craig Thomas Gallery in Ho Chi Minh City Thursday.

"The Scar" by the Hue-based artist uses natural materials to reflect the impermanence of being and the memory of trauma and experience, with physical and metaphorical scars that mark one's life, according to promotional material.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Denmark Cultural Development and Exchange Fund.

The Craig Thomas' Gallery at 27i Tran Nhat Duat, District 1 was opened in 2009 to support young and mid-career artists in Vietnam.
