A Vietnamese odyssey for Indian dance troupe

An Indian troupe performing Odissi, one of the eight classical dance forms of India, will dance in Hanoi and Hai Phong on April 5 and 6, newswire Vietnamplus reported.

 

The 26-member troupe will perform poems and songs by world-renowned poet, musician, philosopher, painter Rabindranath Tagore, wearing traditional costumes for women and men designed and worn by Tagore's family since the 19th century.

 

The designs have become popular in many parts of India and the West.

 

Odissi, originating from the eastern Indian state of Odisha, is the country's oldest surviving dance form on the basis of archaeological evidence.
