Thu Minh with her trophy for winning MAMA's Best Asian Artist Award
Thu Minh won for Best Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) to become the second Vietnamese to claim the prestigious honor at the annual event held in this year in Hong Kong on November 22.
The "Best Asian Artist Award" was given to Minh and other Asian artists from nine countries and territories.
Minh was unable to attend the ceremony in Hong Kong as she was on tour in Russia. In a video message, Minh effusively expressed her gratitude to her fans for their support.
The 36-year-old singer was one of the judges of the first season of Vietnam music reality show Giong Hat Viet, where her student become the first winner of the show, the local adaptation of the American reality show The Voice.
MAMA was first held in South Korea in 1999 and since then, has been known as the "East Asian Grammy Awards."
Last year, female pop singer My Tam also won the award, becoming the first Vietnamese artist ever to receive an international honor of that magnitude.
