12-year-old Nguyen Quang Anh has won the first edition of Giong Hat Viet Nhi (Vietnamese Children's Voice), the local adaptation of Dutch reality TV show The Voice Kids.

In Ho Chi Minh City Saturday he beat the other two finalists, Tran Ngoc Duy and Phuong My Chi, to win VND300 million (US$14,100) and a music scholarship worth VND200 million from organizer Vietnam Television and Cat Tien Sa Company.

He was also given VND10 million and a trip worth VND100 million for him and his family from sponsors of the show.

The results were based on public voting.

The three finalists had to present three performances: a single performance, a duet with their coach, and a performance with other members in their team.
Anh is from the northern province of Thanh Hoa, where he was born into a poor family. His parents were separated from each other when Anh was five years old.
He said he would use the prize money to build a house for his mother, a sanitation worker.

Chi and Duy received VND50 million each.
