The Sports Journalist Club took the football championship at the 4th edition of the Sports Competition co-hosted by Thanh Nien and Tuoi Tre, Vietnam's two most popular newspapers, at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tao Dan Sports Complex on Saturday.
The club took the crown after beating HCMC Television (HTV) 6-3 after a dramatic 6-5 victory over Tuoi Tre newspaper.
HTV, who had earlier defeated Thanh Nien newspaper 2-1, came in second, while Thanh Nien beat Tuoi Tre 3-1 to finish third.
In the tennis event, the duo of Quang Thong and Minh Tan of Thanh Nien newspaper won the men’s doubles title after beating Ngoc Thinh and Minh Triet of Duyen Dang Vietnam magazine and the Voice of Vietnam in the finals.
In the mixed doubles category, Minh Tan and Cam Nhung of Thanh Nien beat Ngoc Quang and My Duyen of Cong An (Police) newspaper. Hoai Le and Do Quyen of Tuoi Tre finished third.
Tuoi Tre editor-in-chief Pham Duc Hai said, “This event is significant not only for a strong tie between the two newspapers [Thanh Nien and Tuoi Tre] of the Youth Union system, but also for the reporters to meet and share experiences.”
“The event was short, but it has been interesting and has improved year after year. We [the organizers] have agreed to keep this event going every year to encourage sports activities among journalists and make the event better and better,” explained Nguyen Quang Thong, editor-in-chief of Thanh Nien.
