Prominent Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son will return to his home country to perform at the “All Beethoven Piano Concerto” to be held at the Hanoi Opera House on January 15 and 18, Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper reported December 2.
Along with Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji, Son will perform with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra Concertos No.1, No.2 and No.3 at 8 p.m. on January 15. Three days later at the same time, they will play Concertos No.4 and No.5.
“All Beethoven Piano Concerto” event is a music project that the pianist has revered for years, the report said.
Son now lives in Montréal, Canada, where he teaches at Montreal University.
He visited Vietnam in January 2010 to hold a solo show in honor what would have been famous Polish composer Chopin’s 200th birthday.
Born in 1958 in Hanoi, Son became a famous pianist worldwide after winning the 10th International Chopin Piano Competition in Poland’s capital city of Warsaw in 1980.
He went on to tour in more than 40 countries. In January 1999, he was the only foreign artist who was invited to perform at the Poland National Opera House in Warsaw, taking part in the Chopin Gala Concert.
