The number plate of a car belonging to the Can Tho police was covered after it hit a motorbike on November 24 and a journalist tried to photograph it
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered Can Tho authorities to investigate the alleged assault of a reporter who was photographing a police car involved in a road accident.
Nguyen Duc Khanh of Nong thon ngay nay (Current countryside) was assaulted by several people in plain clothes who claimed to be officers on the night of November 24 at the site of a collision between a car belonging to the city police and a motorbike.
Khanh said several people who were in the car snatched his camera and cell phone to delete the photos though he showed them his press ID.
When he protested, at least six people beat and chased after him, until he ran into a nearby police station asking for help.
Several people then covered the number plate of the car.
Police in Ninh Kieu District, where the accident happened, have yet to identify the attackers.
The deputy PM has ordered the city administration to punish those responsible by December 25.
